Greenland is the rare trip that justifies its logistics. With the new direct Copenhagen–Nuuk and Copenhagen–Ilulissat flights from 2024, you can be on an Arctic boat among the icebergs in 9 hours. July and August sit at 40–50°F with 20+ hours of daylight — the only window where you can hike, sail, and never need a headlamp.
Ilulissat over Nuuk for a first trip
Nuuk is the capital, but Ilulissat is the postcard: UNESCO-listed icefjord, calving glaciers visible from town, and a 1.2 km wooden boardwalk that puts you at the iceberg viewpoint in 20 minutes on foot.
Book the boat first, hotel second
The midnight-sun icefjord cruise is the single experience worth flying for. Operators (PGI Greenland, World of Greenland) cap at 12 per boat and sell out 6 weeks ahead in peak July. Reserve the boat, then build the rest of the trip around it.
Real cool-weather kit, not summer clothes
This is not Iceland. It's Arctic. Hardshell jacket, insulated mid-layer, waterproof pants, gloves, and a beanie are mandatory even in July. See our gear page for the merino + shell combo travelers rely on here.
